This guide is for office managers, facility teams and procurement officers who buy casters for office carts, printer stands and equipment trolleys. Office casters should move the unit and then hold it still. A wrong caster marks the floor, wobbles under a printer or fails when the load grows.
Know what the unit carries and who moves it
Start with the real weight. A printer stand may carry a printer, paper and toner. A mail cart may carry boxes. A server or AV trolley may carry heavy equipment in one spot.
Weigh the unit fully loaded, or add up the parts. Divide the total by the number of casters, then leave margin. Check the equipment maker's instructions for the weight of the equipment itself.
Tell us if the load sits high or to one side. Uneven loads put more weight on some casters than others.
Tell us how often the unit moves and who pushes it. Tell us too if the unit is tall or narrow. We will take these details into account when we confirm the series.
Floors and noise in an office
Office floors are often carpet, tile, vinyl or polished stone. A caster that rolls well on one may mark or sound loud on another. Wheel material changes noise and floor marks, so tell us about every floor the unit crosses.
Note the thresholds, lift gaps and door strips on the route. A small wheel may stop at a gap that a bigger wheel crosses. Tell us the route and the wheel size you have now.
Light units
Our light duty series is listed at 8 to 65 kg per caster, in three groups:
- PU wheels with Delrin bearing, 12 to 65 kg.
- TPR wheels with Delrin bearing, 8 to 40 kg.
- TPR wheels with single bearing, 10 to 50 kg.
The catalogue lists swivel and rigid top plate casters and swivel threaded stem casters. The two Delrin bearing groups also come with brake. Send us the loaded weight and the floor, and we will confirm the right group.
Heavier equipment carts
For heavier carts, our catalogue lists the HOD medium duty series. Series 51 has single ball bearings and is listed at 30 to 160 kg. Series 52 has double ball bearings and is listed at 35 to 170 kg.
The catalogue lists swivel and rigid top plate casters, swivel threaded stem casters and swivel bolt hole casters, with brake options. Send us the weight of the loaded cart and we will confirm which series to quote.
Brakes, mounting and sets
A printer or copier stand should stay put when staff press the buttons and load paper. Decide how many casters need a brake. A brake on at least two casters keeps a unit from rolling. Tell us if you want all four braked.
Check the mounting on the old unit: top plate, threaded stem, bolt hole or another fitting. A photo of the old caster, or of the mounting point, is enough to start. Our caster finder filters by mounting type.
Fit all casters on one unit from the same series and wheel material, so they wear alike. Keep the old casters when you can, as a sample for us. If you buy for many offices, send us the code of the caster you use now. Tell us how many units share the same type.
