This guide is for production crews, rental teams and event managers who buy casters for flight cases, set pieces and event trolleys. Tell us how the case is packed, rolled and set down, and we can confirm the right series. Here is how to prepare your enquiry.
Weigh the case with everything in it
Start with the loaded weight, not the empty case. Add the equipment, the cables, the foam and any lid or tray that travels with it. A case that is packed for a show weighs more than the same case on the shelf.
Then count the casters under the case or set piece. Divide the loaded weight by that number, and leave a margin. A floor that is not flat can put more weight on one caster.
Each series in this guide lists a load range per caster. The range belongs to the wheel option, so check the option you want and not only the series name.
Medium / heavy duty series
Our medium / heavy duty series is the HOD 62 range. The catalogue lists it at 80 to 330 kg per caster, with double bearing wheels. It has seven wheel options: PP, two PU, PA, two ER and TPR.
This is the only one of the three series in this guide that lists threaded stem and bolt hole casters. It is listed as swivel and rigid top plate casters, swivel threaded stem casters and swivel bolt hole casters, with brake options.
If your case or trolley already has a threaded stem or a bolt hole fitting, tell us. We will confirm which wheel option and code to quote.
Shock absorbing series
Our catalogue lists a shock absorbing series, the HOD D1 range, at 200 to 400 kg per caster. It has three groups:
- ER, at 200 to 350 kg.
- Al.PU, at 300 to 400 kg.
- Iron Core PU, at 280 to 380 kg.
Each is listed as a swivel, swivel with brake and rigid top plate caster.
The catalogue does not say what the shock absorbing design does for any one load. Tell us what the case carries and how it travels, and we will confirm whether to quote from this series.
Heavy duty series
Our heavy duty series is the HOD 72 and 73 range, listed at 120 to 505 kg per caster. It has thirteen wheel options in YUPA, PU, Iron Core PU, PA, ER and TPR.
Each option is listed as a swivel top plate caster, a swivel top plate caster with brake and a rigid top plate caster. Send us the weight per caster and we will confirm which of the three series to quote.
Fitting, swivel and brakes
Look at how the old casters are fixed. Our catalogue uses these names: top plate, threaded stem and bolt hole. Send a photo of the old caster, and measure the plate size and the hole spacing.
All three series list swivel casters with brake. Decide where the case must stay put, for example on a ramp, in a wing or on a stage deck. Then tell us which casters need a brake.
Use one code on every caster of a case. If you carry several cases of one type, ask us to quote them as one set.
Tell us about the floors the case will cross. Stage decking, hall floors, loading ramps and outdoor ground all treat a wheel differently. Tell us if the case is rolled where guests or the public can see it, and we will confirm the wheel.
You can also try the caster finder. It filters by mounting, wheel material, brake and load.
What to send us for a quote
- What the unit is: flight case, set piece or event trolley.
- The full loaded weight and the number of casters.
- The mounting: top plate, threaded stem or bolt hole, with the plate size and hole spacing.
- A photo of the old caster, or its code if you can read it.
- Rigid, swivel or swivel with brake, and how many of each.
- The floors it crosses, and any ramps or outdoor ground.
- The quantity you need.
Request a quote on our website or message us on WhatsApp, and we will confirm the right series for your equipment.
