Conductive casters for electronics workshops

What to check before you order conductive casters for electronics assembly and repair areas: site rules, load, mounting and product documents.

This guide is for maintenance managers, workshop supervisors and buyers who equip electronics assembly and repair areas. It explains what to check before you order conductive casters. Getting this wrong can mean replacing a full set of casters later.

Why trolleys matter in a static-sensitive area

Many electronics areas control static electricity. Staff wear wrist straps or special footwear, and benches and mats are connected to earth.

A trolley carries boards, tools and equipment from bench to bench, so its wheels are part of the same plan. Ask your quality team what your site needs from trolley wheels.

The floor, the footwear and the rest of your setup also count. The caster is one part of the system, not the whole answer.

What a conductive caster is

Our conductive series is listed with conductive TPR wheels. In our catalogue, it is the HOD B1 series, with an annular bearing. It is listed for loads of 85 to 115 kg per caster.

It comes as swivel and rigid top plate casters, swivel threaded stem casters and swivel bolt hole casters. Brake versions are listed too.

Do not pick a conductive wheel by colour. Grey or black tells you nothing. Only the product documents and the product code tell you what you are buying. Keep those documents with your purchase record, so your quality team can check them later.

Check your site requirements first

Every site has its own rules. Your customer, your quality team or your safety officer may set limits for how static must behave on the shop floor. We do not decide those for you, and we do not claim a caster meets a rule that we have not documented.

Before you order, get three answers from your own side:

  • What does your site require for trolleys and mobile equipment?
  • What floor do you have, and is it part of the static path?
  • Do you need a paper record for each part you buy?

Write down who on your side signs off the choice: quality, safety or the customer. Send us their requirements with your enquiry.

Then ask us for the product documents for the series you want. Compare them with your own requirements. If something is unclear, tell us and we will check with HOD.

Work out the load and the trolley

A conductive caster only helps if it also carries the trolley safely. Start with the trolley itself.

  • Weigh the trolley when empty, then when fully loaded. Include the boards, tools and equipment it carries.
  • Do not size by the empty trolley weight alone.
  • Divide the loaded weight across the casters, and leave a safety margin. Do not count on all four wheels sharing the weight equally on an uneven floor.
  • Decide how many casters need a brake. A brake on at least two casters keeps a trolley from rolling when someone works at it.
  • Note the mounting: top plate, threaded stem or bolt hole.

If your load is low, tell us. The conductive series is listed at 85 to 115 kg per caster. If your load is higher, our medium duty series is listed at 30 to 170 kg per caster. Tell us the load, and we will confirm the right series.

Mix of casters on one trolley

Fit the whole trolley with the same series, unless the product documents and your own site rules say otherwise. This also keeps the trolley rolling evenly.

Keep the wheels clean too. Ask your quality team how often to inspect the wheels.

What to send us for a quote

Send us this information, and we will confirm the right series and product code:

  • What the trolley carries, and its empty and loaded weight.
  • How many casters it has, and how many need a brake.
  • The mounting type: top plate, threaded stem or bolt hole, with the hole spacing or stem size.
  • The floor type in the working area.
  • Your site requirements for static, and the documents you need from us.
  • Photos of the current casters and their codes, if you are replacing them.
