This guide is for site managers, contractors and scaffold hire companies in the UAE who buy casters for mobile scaffold towers. A tower on wheels moves people at height, so the wrong caster is a safety problem and a cost problem. Here is what to check before you order.
Start with the brakes
Brakes matter on a mobile tower. Follow the tower maker's instructions and your site safety rules.
The scaffold series in our catalogue is listed as swivel casters with brake. Five models are listed, with codes I550183-552, I550163-552, I760166-217, I760166-307 and I760166-537. Tell us about your tower and we will confirm which model fits.
Every caster on a tower may carry a different share of the load, so ask your tower supplier how many casters the tower needs. Look at the brake on the caster you use today. Tell us if staff find it hard to see or hard to reach, and we will take that into account.
Know your tower and the load
The caster has to carry the tower, the platform, the people and their tools. Ask your tower supplier for the working load of the tower. Then check the load rating of each caster against the weight on it.
The scaffold series in the catalogue is listed at 350 to 600 kg. Always check the figure for the exact code you buy. Do not guess from the size of the wheel.
Also check how the caster fits the tower leg. The stem, plate or socket must match the tower. Tell us the tower leg fitting, and we will confirm the match. Send us the tower details, or a photo of the current caster and the leg.
Look at the ground on your site
Site ground is often not a proper floor. You may find sand, loose stones, mud, cracked concrete, slabs with gaps and small ramps. Tell us what your ground is like, because it affects which wheel you need.
Walk your route before you order and note what you find. Write down soft patches, holes, debris and small ramps. Your tower maker and site safety officer decide how the tower may be moved over them.
Our catalogue lists a pneumatic series as well. The pneumatic series is listed at 160 to 220 kg, against 350 to 600 kg for the scaffold series. You can also use the caster finder to compare series, then tell us your load and ground.
Safety rules come from the tower maker
We sell casters. We do not set the rules for using or moving a tower.
Your tower maker and your site safety officer set the rules for moving and using the tower. Tell us what they require for casters, and we will say what we can offer.
If you need product documents, ask us and we will send what we have.
Keep the tower maker's instructions with your purchase records. When you ask for new casters, send us the tower model, so we can work from the same information your maker used.
Check the casters you have today
Before you reorder, look at the casters on your towers. The notes you take will help us match the right part.
- Note the code on each caster, if you can read it.
- Note if a wheel is cracked, flat, worn unevenly or stuck with debris.
- Note if a caster is bent, or has loose or missing parts.
- Note if a brake does not hold.
Follow your tower maker's instructions and your site safety rules for any tower with a faulty caster. Replace worn casters with the right part, not the nearest one you can find. Replacing casters in full sets keeps all the wheels in the same condition.
What to send us for a quote
Send us this information so we can confirm the right product:
- the make and type of tower, and the working load it is used at;
- a photo of the current caster, and of how it fits the tower leg;
- the code on the old caster, if there is one;
- the type of ground on your site and your route;
- how many casters you need, and whether you want them in full sets;
- any requirements from the tower maker or your site safety officer.
Request a quote on our website or message us on WhatsApp, and we will confirm the right series for your tower.
