This guide is for maintenance teams and buyers who must match a caster to a trolley, rack or machine. The fitting is the part that attaches the caster to your equipment. A caster with the wrong fitting cannot be used, even when the wheel and the load are right.
Look at the fitting before the wheel
Turn the trolley over, or look at the old caster. Find how it is fixed to the equipment. Then use the same words we use in our catalogue, so we both mean the same thing.
Keep the old caster if you can. Our guide to replacement caster measurements lists what to photograph and measure.
Look at what is fitted today, not at what the trolley came with.
Check the fitting first and the load second. The fitting decides which series we can look at. The load per caster then decides which model.
The fitting names we use
Our catalogue uses four names for how a caster attaches:
- Top plate: a flat plate on top of the caster, fixed to a flat surface.
- Threaded stem: a threaded stem on top of the caster, used in place of a plate.
- Bolt hole: a hole in the top of the caster, fixed with a bolt.
- Other fitting: a fitting that is none of these. Some other series list swivel casters with another fitting. Send us a photo.
In the series below, rigid casters are listed with a top plate only. Threaded stem and bolt hole casters are listed as swivel casters. If you need a rigid caster, the top plate is the fitting to look for.
A fitting name does not tell us the whole caster. Two casters with the same fitting can have different wheels, loads and brakes. Use the fitting to narrow the choice, then confirm the rest with us.
Other series list some of these fittings too. Our medium / light duty series lists top plate, threaded stem and other swivel fittings. Our conductive series lists top plate, threaded stem and bolt hole versions. In our low gravity series, the double wheel models also list threaded stem and bolt hole fittings.
Our caster finder lets you filter every model by mounting type, brake and wheel material.
Light duty: top plate and threaded stem
Our light duty series is listed at 8 to 65 kg per caster. It comes as swivel and rigid top plate casters and swivel threaded stem casters. It does not list a bolt hole version.
Brake versions are listed for the two groups with Delrin bearing wheels. The group with TPR wheels and a single bearing is listed without a brake. If you need a brake on a stem caster, tell us.
Medium duty: top plate, threaded stem and bolt hole
Our medium duty series is the HOD 51 and 52 range. Single bearing models are listed at 30 to 160 kg and double bearing models at 35 to 170 kg.
The catalogue lists swivel and rigid top plate casters, swivel threaded stem casters and swivel bolt hole casters, with brake options. If your equipment has a bolt hole, this series lists it, and the light duty series does not.
Medium / heavy duty: top plate, threaded stem and bolt hole
Our medium / heavy duty series is the HOD 62 range, listed at 80 to 330 kg per caster. It has seven wheel options. Each is listed as swivel and rigid top plate casters, swivel threaded stem casters and swivel bolt hole casters, with brake options.
Its fittings match the medium duty list above, with a higher listed load range. Tell us your load per caster and the fitting, and we will confirm which series to quote.
