This guide is for facility managers, IT teams and buyers who need casters for server racks and IT cabinets. We do not give rack weights here, because they depend on your equipment. Tell us your figures and we will confirm the series.
Start with the loaded rack
A rack changes weight each time equipment is added or removed. So work from the rack as it stands when you move it.
- Weigh the loaded rack, or add up the weight of the rack and each unit in it.
- Divide the total by the number of casters, then leave a margin.
- Check the rack maker's data for the weight and for any limit on moving the rack.
Compare the result per caster with the load range of the series. Leave room below the top of the range if the rack moves often.
If the rack already has casters, send us a photo of one and its code. That is the quickest way to match the fitting.
Series in our catalogue to compare
Our catalogue does not list a series for server racks. So we compare by load, fitting and conditions, using the series below. Tell us your figures and we will confirm which one to quote.
Low gravity (A1). Listed at 200 to 280 kg per caster. The single wheel models are swivel and rigid top plate casters. The double wheel models add swivel threaded stem and swivel bolt hole casters. The catalogue lists no brake model for this series, and it gives no caster height. So measure the height you have and send it to us.
Medium / heavy duty (62). Listed at 80 to 330 kg per caster, with seven wheel options: PP, two PU, PA, two ER and TPR. The load range depends on the wheel option, so check the exact option, not only the series. Each option comes as swivel and rigid top plate casters, swivel threaded stem casters and swivel bolt hole casters, with brake options.
Conductive wheels
Our catalogue lists a conductive series, the HOD B1, at 85 to 115 kg per caster. If your site has rules for wheels, send them to us and ask for the product documents. See also our guide on conductive casters for electronics workshops.
Floors, routes and fitting
Tell us the floor the rack rolls on and any covering on it. Also tell us the route: doorways, lifts, thresholds and the final position of the rack. Tell us each floor the rack crosses.
Wheel material affects noise and floor marks. If the floor must stay clean, tell us.
Look at the base of the rack and note how the old casters fit: top plate, threaded stem or bolt hole. Measure the plate size and the hole spacing.
If you need a brake, say so at the start, and say how many casters you want braked. Then we can check that the series you are considering lists a brake model. Our caster finder filters by mounting, wheel material, brake and load.
Moving the rack
Follow the rack maker's instructions and your site safety rules for moving a loaded rack. Tell us how it is moved: pushed by hand, how many people, and how often.
When you replace casters, send us the old codes so we can match the set. A mixed set on one rack can roll and wear unevenly, so we quote the whole rack from one series and wheel option.
What to send us for a quote
- The rack or cabinet type, and its loaded weight.
- The number of casters you plan to fit.
- The mounting: top plate, threaded stem or bolt hole, with the plate size and hole spacing.
- The height available between the floor and the rack base.
- Rigid, swivel or brake, and how many of each.
- The floor type and the route the rack takes.
- Your site requirements for wheels, if you have any.
- A photo of the rack base and of any old caster.
Request a quote on our website or message us on WhatsApp, and we will confirm the right series and code for your rack.
