Gaskets

This guide is for maintenance managers, workshop supervisors and buyers who need a gasket for a pump housing or a machine cover. These two jobs look alike but need different details from you. Here is what our catalogue lists and what to send us for each.

What our catalogue lists

Our catalogue lists gaskets as custom gasket materials for flange sealing, machinery, piping and industrial maintenance. For a pump housing or a machinery cover, tell us the job and we will confirm which listing applies.

The catalogue does not list a pressure limit, a temperature limit or a fluid for gaskets. So we do not claim any here. Tell us your conditions and we will confirm the material.

For a general list of what to send, see our guide on what to send for a gasket or seal quote. If your gasket sits on a pipe flange, use our guide on how to measure a flange for a gasket.

A pump housing and a machine cover are different jobs

Each one needs its own details. Tell us which one you have before you send anything else.

  • Pump housing: the pump type, what it moves, and whether the cover is taken off for service.
  • Machine cover or guard plate: the machine, the size of the opening, and what leaks or enters.
  • Several covers: how many covers there are, and whether they are the same size.

If you have several pumps of the same model, say so.

A pump housing gasket sits between two faces that may be opened again and again. A machine cover gasket may be opened only for service, or may stay shut for long periods. Tell us how often the cover comes off. We use that to ask the right follow-up questions.

We also list quotation support for custom sizes. If your cover has an unusual shape or many cut-outs, tell us and we will check what we can offer.

The old gasket and the faces it sits between

Keep the old gasket, even if it is torn. Do not throw it away until the new one is confirmed. Lay it flat and photograph it with a ruler beside it. The measuring steps are in the flange guide linked above.

Two points matter more on pumps and covers than on a pipe joint:

  • Note which side of the old gasket faced the pump or machine and which side faced the cover.
  • Describe the faces it sits between. Say if they are clean, rough, painted or damaged. Say if the cover is flat or has a lip, and whether it is metal or plastic.

A photo of each face helps. If the old gasket is missing, send a drawing of the cover face and a photo of the empty surface with a ruler. Measure the bolt hole positions, because holes that do not line up mean a second order.

Tell us the fluid

Name the fluid clearly. Say what is inside the pump or machine, and what is outside.

  • The fluid or liquid in the housing, by its name.
  • Whether it is oil, fuel, water, cleaning chemicals or something else.
  • The hottest temperature the cover or pump reaches, if you know it.

Do not guess the fluid. If you are not sure, send the name from the pump data plate or from the safety label. Our catalogue describes nitrile rubber sheet as oil-resistant NBR sheet for workshops, gaskets, pads and fuel-related environments.

That is the catalogue wording. It does not name a pressure or a temperature, so tell us your conditions and we will confirm if nitrile is the right material.

Thickness and sheet material

Tell us the thickness of the old gasket, and the gap between the two faces if you can measure it. Use a calliper if you have one. Write the unit beside the number.

Our catalogue lists rubber sheets for flooring, lining, sealing and protection. If your job is a sealing sheet rather than a shaped gasket, ask us about that listing too.

We list several rubber sheet materials, including EPDM, nitrile, Viton, NR / SBR and neoprene. Tell us the fluid and the conditions, and we will say which sheet to quote. You can also read about the industrial materials we supply.

What to send us for a quote

  • Whether the job is a pump housing or a machine cover, and how many.
  • Photos of the old gasket, laid flat with a ruler.
  • A drawing of the cover face, if the old gasket is missing.
  • The name of the fluid, and what is on the outside of the cover.
  • The thickness of the old gasket, and the number of bolt holes.
  • The pump or machine type, with a photo of the data plate.
  • The quantity you need.
  • Any product documents your quality team needs.

Request a quote on our website or message us on WhatsApp, and we will confirm the right material for your job.
