This guide is for buyers who know roughly what their trolley weighs and want to know which series to look at first. It is a lookup of the ranges in our catalogue, not a selection rule. Every range is per caster, so work out the load per caster first. Our guide to caster load capacity shows how. Then send us the loaded weight and we will confirm the series.
The ranges in our catalogue
These are the figures our catalogue lists, from the lowest range to the highest. A series whose range holds your figure is a candidate. It is not yet the answer.
- Light duty: 8 to 65 kg per caster.
- Medium / light duty: 53 to 100 kg.
- Medium duty: 30 to 160 kg for single bearing and 35 to 170 kg for double bearing.
- Medium / heavy duty: 80 to 330 kg.
- Heavy duty: 120 to 505 kg.
- Extra heavy duty: 2000 to 4000 kg.
The low gravity, shock absorbing, foam, pneumatic and conductive series have their own ranges on their own pages. Tell us the job and we will check them.
The ranges overlap
Look again at the list. A load can fall inside the range of two or three series. A figure of 100 kg, for example, sits inside medium / light duty, medium duty and medium / heavy duty. So the range alone does not choose the series.
When more than one series holds your figure, the other facts decide. These are the wheel material, the fitting, whether you need a brake, and the floor. Tell us those, and we will confirm which series to quote. You can also try the caster finder.
A series range is the lowest and highest figure across all its options. The wheel material changes the number. In the heavy duty series, the catalogue lists thirteen wheel options with different ranges, from 120 to 505 kg overall. So do not stop at the series name. Look at the exact option on the series page, or send us the code you are considering.
Light duty, medium / light duty and medium duty
Our light duty series comes in three groups with PU or TPR wheels. It comes as swivel and rigid top plate casters and swivel threaded stem casters.
Our medium / light duty series is the HOD 42 range. It has dual bearing wheels in nylon, PU and TPR, with and without brake.
Our medium duty series is the HOD 51 and 52 range. The catalogue lists single ball bearing models and double ball bearing models, and the two have different ranges.
Medium / heavy duty, heavy duty and heavy low gravity
Our medium / heavy duty series is the HOD 62 range. It has seven wheel options. Each is listed as swivel and rigid top plate casters, swivel threaded stem casters and swivel bolt hole casters, with brake options.
Our heavy duty series is the HOD 72 and 73 range, with double bearing wheels. Read the range on the exact wheel option, as the section above explains.
Our heavy low gravity series is the HOD A2 range, with PA wheels and double bearing. The catalogue gives no caster height for it.
Extra heavy duty
Our extra heavy duty series is the HOD 92 range with PA wheels and double bearing. It is a swivel top plate caster and a rigid top plate caster. The catalogue lists no brake version for it.
If your load is close to the top of a range, tell us. Do not choose a series only because your figure just fits.
What to send us for a quote
- What the trolley or equipment is, and what it carries.
- The loaded weight: the empty trolley plus the heaviest load.
- The number of casters, so we can check the load per caster.
- The fitting: top plate, threaded stem, bolt hole or another fitting.
- Rigid, swivel or brake, and how many of each.
- The floor, and anything on it such as water, oil or chemicals.
- A photo of the old casters, or their code.
- The quantity you need.
